White fluffy tubes in sump?
Hi there!
Just started my first saltwater tank about 6 months ago, it's a 90gal Reef setup with a sump. Everything is going well, but the last couple weeks I have noticed weird white, fluffy tubes growing like crazy in my sump. They do no retract if I poke them. I have attached some pictures. They are pretty small, I'd guess about 6-10mm. Most are smooth tubes with feathery puffs on top, some have a little fluff growing on the sides. Any help you could provide is greatly appreciated! |

Pineapple sponges. I had an outbreak about the same time. They are harmless filter feeders and will disappear on their own. Or at least reduce a lot.

I had A LOT of these about 3-4 months after I put my fish in my 30L tank. I like scraped them off and siphoned a lot of them during a water change. I may find 1 or 2 now, but definitely not a lot as I used to.

I'm about 5-6 months into my tank as well, and have a ton of these in my sump and my overflows.
As others said, I wouldn't worry about them. |
