Reef Octopus 110 EXT

I just bought a reef octopus 110 Ext skimmer and when I turn it on it fills and overflows. I purchased the 250gph feed pump as recommended. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I did plumb the return line up and over the wall of my sump and I am wondering if this is the problem.

The raised outlet is the problem, you have to raise the skimmer or drill the sump so the outlet is not higher than the factory one.
