Question on the Apex 12 Volt Alternate power port

When this is enabled and a 12 volt adapter is plugged in does the apex pull its normal power usage from the alternate power port or draw power from the EB8? Is the port just used as a stand by power?

Might post on forum.neptunesystems.com, seems to be the place other than customer service that has a lot of info..

It's my understanding though, this 12 volt power slot, is meant to be hooked up to a battery backup, with a 2nd energy bar, so if the power goes out, the base unit stays on, and then switches to the energy bar hooked up to the ups. At least that's my loose interpretation of it..
