Ebay overflow box
I found this kit on eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2000-gph-LOW...item2c89466a9c I'm looking to drill a 30 gallon breeder with the smaller version (1600 gph or less...if they have one) and install a herbie or bean animal system in it. I'm aiming to pair it with an Eheim 1260 return at probably 4 or 5 feet of head (~400gph). I imagine this would be overkill but I want a dual drain system for peace of mind. 1 1/2" drains seem a bit much for my application but, again, I can't seem to find something with this design for 1" piping. The glass holes one cannot accommodate the syphon overflow with redundancy I require. Has anyone used this type of bulkhead/external overflow box before? My concerns would be primarily the following: - Failure. I live in a townhouse with neighbours below and to the side. I can ill afford a flood, either through the box construction, a plug up or other failure. -noise. I had a herbie once and it was nice and quiet, barring the sound of water trickling down the overflow box. With such low flow through this system I imagine it won't be a concern. - cost is always an issue. -aesthetics. This seems to look the part. |

Also, is the external box big enough to house the plumbing a bean/herbie would require?

I was recently communicating with this seller for a custom sized internal box. They were quick to respond. They might be able to offer a custom size if you need.
I have a similar issue, laminate floors. I really wish I would have done a ceramic wood look tile. |

A custom box would be nice as well. I'm just hoping this design is all it purports to be.

I just got a 12" one without teeth or weir for a 30B. It does have the 1 1/2" bulkheads through the glass, only because I didn't think about asking for smaller ones. The 3 BA bulkheads are 3/4" though. It's pretty nice, bent corners and for me the fact that it's readily available, not a unicorn or a Ghost(wa-waaa). One of the sides on a brace popped off during shipping so I gotta Weldon it back but not a big deal.
Gl*******s swears by their proven design and won't take custom orders.......... |

Looks good, I am building a 40 breeder SPS tank, I have the CPR single overflow box with a single bulk head, this is obviously better.

I sent him a request for a custom one with 1" drains through the glass. 3/4" for the bean animal drains are OK with the eheim 1260 or should I go for 1"?

I have a similar setup I built myself. I'm running less flow with 1" bulkheads with no problem. I would go with 1" bulkheads for the drains.
