well water
newby here
hi im frogpockets i have the best well water.people come from miles around to fill up.makes the best brandies and some beer. i know that is not relevant. im just proud. what do i have to do to find out if my well water would be suitable to add salt too.use as a base?or just use to top off with.ro the initial fill up then use my tap. oh i should say i do not condition my water.just strait from the ground. |

TDS meter. I doubt it will read 0, like you want it too for saltwater.

Some people have used well water in their reef tanks. It has no chlorine no chemicals to clean it. Saying that, it depends largely where you live. There could be poesticides. silica could be abundant really too many things too list. If you want to be sure its safe you need to get a full analysis of the water before you use it.
I am willing to bet though that you are going to need to use an RO/DI unit in the end though. |

Just keep in mind that what makes water good to drink or make brandy isn't the same as what makes it good for your tank. Sometimes quite the opposite.

We also love our well water and believe it very clean. But our water comes to us from a pump and pipes and faucets that are not RO clean.
In this hobby, I'm not sure it's worth risking it. Just my two cents. |
