notice some ich spots on new fish
Yesterday, I purchased a small yellow tang. This morning, I noticed what appears to be ich spots. I have it in a separate tank. The fish is swimming around and eating well (algae sheets.) Not sure if I should start treatment now or wait to see if the fish will be able to fight it off.

I guess that depends on your philosophy regarding treatments.
Personally, I would begin treatment with any sign of a problem. Since you have the fish in a QT, treatment should be a reasonably simple matter. Asking the fish to fight off ich (and since you're seeing signs you know it has been infected for a period of time and you have no idea of how long or how much), is kind of like getting a cold and deciding to wait and see if you feel better before taking medicine to help you feel better more quickly IMO. |

When you first got the tang, did you add it the DT? Or did it go right into the separate tank after purchase?
Your next steps will depend on which way you started. |

No it was never in the display. I learned my lesson with quarantine after I got burned with cichlids years a go. I will try to find Prazipro.

This. Tank transfer works in a bare tank, so you can keep rotating tanks and changing filters. At a certain point the ich has to drop off and go to a sandbed which this tank doesn't have, or into the filter medium, which you throw away. Keep up the daily changes and ultimately you separate him from the parasite.

If you are sure it is crypto go tank transfer method as the others have suggested. This a quick way to get rid of crypto and requires minimal effort. Two rounds of prazi then monitor the fish for at least 30 days to make sure all is well.

I wasn't able to do a tank transfer, however, I got some copper and started treating immediately. From what I can tell, the ich spots are gone. I am going to continue treatment through tomorrow, then keep it in QT for a few more weeks to monitor it. Thanks again everyone
