Buy or build
We have a 40 gallon reef. But we are wanting
To go bigger but not sure about tank brands or Can I make my own tank |

Personally I would purchase a tank, new or used. Then make your own sump, building the sump can be equally rewarding and its more forgiving on mistakes. Again just my personal opinion. If you do have a strong desire to build your own then there are numerous threads with details and drawings with in this forum. Search "DIY aquarium" or "DIY 200 Gallon" or which ever size you are thinking of and you will find a ton of info.

Until you get above the 180g/210g mark, it really isn't cost effective to build a tank. Even then there are commercially available tanks in the hundreds of gallons. Once you get that size, most folks either have them built or buy used. I have seen several plywood aquariums using 2 part epoxy to seal the inside and glass panels for viewing but that in itself is a major project and is typically reserved for tanks 200g+.
