After 6years my Vortech battery backup died

I drilled out rivets and replaced battery with the same one that you can get on ebay for $40 and free shipping

I wonder if you could just use a car battery, does the battery to controller need a special connection

Exactly, they wan't you to buy another back up unit from them, not replace the worn out battery when it hits it's end of useful life span......of course it might not have been the battery either. Charger/electronics could have gone out......

Yes you can use higher capacity car/marine battery when diy. Battery to controller required a 1.3mm type H (if I remember correctly).

Here is the same battery that is in the ecotech unit. I was going to order another from ecotech unit I saw it was $160.
