Help Avi with his marine animal notes

My student Avi is quite a character. He's an eccentric hockey star that loves to learn but only his own way. Getting him to write or edit his work is very difficult and he only enjoys taking notes on the science we study. He asked me to post his work on RC. I welcome any member to offer him additional information about the fish that he has chosen to study. He promised he would edit his drafts if people respond with more information

I have a couple questions for you: all of these creatures live in the sea, but not all are fish. Have you learned yet which ones are fish and which ones are something different?

And how did the octopus get its name?

This is a fun project and you're lucky to have such a good teacher!

I wish we did this kind of stuff when I was in school!

Lot of good information in there, couple of bits for the foxface:

They are known to be aggressive to conspecifics in captivity - conspecifics means fish that are similar.

They also get fairly big - One Spot Foxface get around 6", and Lo Or Magnifica get to around 8 or 9

Like foxfaces, flame angels can also be aggressive to conspecifics and is a dwarf angelfish. So it is much smaller compared to large angel species.

Avi, I agree with your assessment of the beauty of angelfish. Where did you get stung by a jellyfish? I was lucky enough to go to Greece once, and on the ferry we saw an enormous migration of jellyfish. They almost looked like a solid mass!

For a new project, hmm, commensalism? Cleaner shrimp, gobies, etc?

Cleaner Shrimp 'cleaning stations'

Pistol Shrimp and Shrimp Gobys

Zooxanthellae (sp?) in corals, clams, etc.

Clowns and nems

Must be more to choose from

Banggaii fry and longspine urchin

I know it was mentioned above but symbiotic relationships are great! There are so many to choose from as well:

Clownfish/anemone
Cleaner shrimp with their "stations"
Bangaii Cardinal fish/sea urchins
Shrimp Gobies/pistol shrimp
Certain crabs (anemene crab)/anemone
Mud crab/sponge
Cleaner wrasses/fish and sharks
That's just what I could come up with off the top of my head. There's even more than that! Symbiotic relationships are an amazing way to study ocean life and is extremely interesting! I have quite a few in my tanks right now!

I think symbiotic relationships are a great subject as mentioned prior. I think the children would be interested in bivalves also, specifically Tridacna clams.

How about different zones of the ocean? Midnight zones? Some of the most interesting things on earth are found down there
