Polarity on mp 40's

Hi, I have had my 2 mp 40's for about a year. I'm out of town for work. My wife called me and said one of the wet sides was on the bottom of the tank. When she went to put it back on she said instead of being attracted to the dry said it was pushing it away like the polarity changed. Any ideas what's going on?

Yup, she needs to turn the pump off before trying to put it back on.
