Adjustable pump/powerhead options

We need to devise an adjustable pump that can be connected to tubing for marine benthic invertebrate sampling and sorting on a screen tray. The pump will be connected to an inverter connected to a 12V car battery. We'll need two of these pump setups.

I'm thinking something simple like a couple Maxijet 400s with tubing and a valve to control flow. Any other options that come already with adjustable flow, can be connected to tubing and don't involve jerry-rigging some hosing onto a powerhead? It will ideally be more of a gentle, constant flow than something blasting away.

Maxijets seem to be a pretty good choice. I can't think of anything that would be simpler or more effective to setup.
