Coral and Water Change
Greetings! I recently purchased a yellow leather coral who is doing very well and looks very happy, but my question has to do with water changes.
He is situated high up in my tank, to the point where if I do water changes he will be exposed. How do you do water changes if you've got a coral who lives up high in the tank? -Mariah |

do you have a sump?
if not, i dont think a 2 minute air exposure would kill it. Some corals are exposed to air for long periods of time from low tides in nature. but if you have a sump. shut the return off. and drain from the sump.

might be time to get the drill =P
as long as you don't leave the coral in open air for more than a minute or two, i don't see a problem. if anything, drop the waterline to just above it. i cant imagine you don't have atleast 3 inches from the water surface? What size tank is it? 3 inches drop could easily be your 10 -15% weekly change.

Leather coral will be fine with a short exposure to air. Just leave it in place and do the water change.

I believe you would be fine. I have had leathers out longer than 2-3 minutes for fragging or rearranging the rock. It will in all likelihood be a bit upset and closed for a little while. Good luck.

It's a 55 gallon tank. He's pretty close to the top, but more than 3 inches.
I appreciate all of the advice you guys. |
