70G Reef stock idea
Hi,
Can somebody take a look on my stock idea for 70G tank (35,5x23,5x18) + 30G sump from Cadlights that I plan to buy (I hope)... x1 Kole Tang x4 Green Chromis x2 Ocellaris Clownfish x2 Firefish Goby x1 Kauderns Cardinal x1 Longfin Fairy Wrasse x2 Green Mandarin (once established) +shrimps, crabs. I won't be overstocked? Is there any better fish/fishes to add? Thanks |

I wouldn't add the tang to anything less than 100gal. The Mandarins will need to be a mated pair and you will need a healthy pod population with a fuge. Not sure but if I remember correctly, the wrasse will compete with the mandarins for pods.

But Kole Tang is small, 4 inches. I'll add the mandarins when I'll have a big party ds population. But anyway, my tank won't be overstocked? Thanks |

i would drop the kole, and advise only one mandarin.
i've kept both, and a 3' tank is small for any tang, even one of the smaller species like a kole. as far as the pair of mandy, realistically you're looking at 70 gallons of tank PER mandy. keeping a pair in that 70 would be roughly analogous to keeping a single specimen in a 35 gallon, which is not adequate.

I had my kole in a 4ft and he used every inch. Tangs like swimming length, even the bristletooths.
Unfortunately I haven't kept coral beauties or dottybacks, so I'm not very familiar with their care, but I'm sure someone else here will be.

Nix the tang, only one mandarin and only if you have an established fuge because your wrasse will compete with it for pods. Also as mentioned above the chromis tend to off each other.

Kole tang are fine in a 4 foot tank. Anything less Id avoid. For me I have a blue tang in my 75... Couldn't resist it. Love the fish. But figure if I don't upgrade soon I'll have to give it away to a bigger tank due to its adult size. But for now I can enjoy it. Blue or yellow won't work in a 3ft. Idk go with one mandrain goby as opposed to 2 since it will be very hard to have a large pod population. Unless you can get them on frozen food. For the Angels. Id get at least 2 different ones. Make sure you add them at the exact same time for better success. I had a flame and coral beauty in mine and worked out well. Good luck!

As Tangs swim horizontally, it must be fine for blue and yellow, I think. |

ok. then that will be fine, but in alot of cases many hobbyists said they are going to upgrade when the fish gets bigger. Most cases when that time comes, something else comes up that you had to spend the money on and now they cannot upgrade, so they are stuck with a fish that is stressed and could cause harm to your tank, ie ich. All I am saying is, if you know you are able to upgrade with no problems or challenges in the way go ahead, if not maybe rethink your stocklist.

Id go with a yellow tang for long term in that tank then Blue may be possible. It would need to be wide.
