How can you tell if your corals are eating?
This thought emerged after I saw my mushroom digest an extract of reef roids ... and I would like to know more ...
In general, how can you tell if your corals is digesting on what you've given them? i.e. I can tell for Goni, if each individual polyp is closing once target fed, means they are munching it ... otherwise if few polyps retracted almost immediately, means they are doing defensive mechanism because the squirt is a bit too strong. How about these softies and LPS:
What are your observation? How can you tell if they are digesting/munching the food that you've given them? Just an example, when I target feed my zoas with reef roids, I don't see they reacted (at all) ... it's almost as if, you are pouring reef roids onto a rock ... Same goes to Hammers & Torch, when I target feed mine with mysis shrimps, i don't see the mouth physically munching the shrimp .. even though I dropped the piece right on top of it's mouth ... I notice with my torch when I feed him, he pulls in slightly when the food hits him, I am assuming its grabbing the food bits.
as a test when I fed him I just gently squirted water against him, and no reaction. also my tree like sofites retract their little polyp hair like things when I shoot them with food. |
