Identification help?

This yellow sponge type material is growing in clumps in my chaetomorpha. When I break it open, there are bristle-worms inside. Does this indicate anything about my water? Is it something beneficial?

I can't get the picture to display - I used "Insert Picture",

Pic's not working for me, and I'd really like to see what you're talking about.

Hi Robin, seems if I just put in the URL it shows up.

Hi Pete.

I don't know what that is, but I really wish I hadn't looked while I was eating lunch.

Is it slimy? How is the flow of water through the chaeto? The worms make me think there might be some organic decay involved, but I admit I'm grasping at straws. Maybe you could post on the "other invertebrates" board if you don't get a response soon.

yeah, I'd have to say yes on the slimy factor. I'd even call it "waxy". And now my fingers are feeling the after effects of the bristle worms :-)

Veggies, worms, and mustard. Looks like a delicious meal.

My main concern is the chaeto is probably going to suffer/die off from the excessive growth overtaking it. May be an o.k. trade off for nutrient export but I don't know, I imagine you'll need to replace your chaeto in the future though.
