Buying a used 24G nano cube from a friend. General advice requested.

A coworker has a 24 gallon nano cube that has been shut down for over a year. He's willing to sell the whole setup for $300 or less. Is there anything I should be aware of when buying a used tank?

He said he shut it down to move and sold all of his fish to the LFS. So, I'm assuming all of the equipment is still in good working order. I don't know anything else about the equipment.

I plan on having fish to start, and then possibly adding anenomes and LPS. Thoughts on that too?

Without knowing the exact equipment it's hard to judge if it's worth the $300.

With all used tanks and especially ones that were dry for a long time, make sure it doesn't leak or has issues with the silicone seams.

As for the plan with the fish and corals: again, it's impossible to say what life the tank can support without knowing about the equipment.

IMHO, it's not worth it. But I don't know what equipment is included either. I just know you can buy a new tank for around the same price. Look on drfostersmith and marinedepot for price comparison.

Sounds like too much for a nano cube. You can get one new for that, or for less priced used.

to add to what the others said, you may want to peruse your local craigslist a bit, just to get a good idea of "market" value for the setup in your area.

and to echo previous posters, it's going to depend a lot on what it comes with.

you say 24 gallon nano cube, is it one of the all in one setups? like a jbj?

it looks like DFS actually has a stand/tank kit for $220?
