Red Slime Issue... HELP!!!

So over the past few weeks I saw that my rocks and sand bed have been getting COVERED in red slime. I went out and bought a new Current LED light as I read that it can help to cut down on the slime. But I wanted to know if you all had an suggestions as to any livestock that I might be able to get to get rid of it, or at least help. Currently I have a Hippo Tang, Clownfish and 2 Blue Damsels in the tank, as well as a few hermit crabs... (I know, I need to beef up my clean up crew)... Anything out there that would help? Ive heard Fighting Conch or Diamond Gobies can help, but I think I would need to put in a special order at my LFS for them. Thanks!!!

Your clean up crew needs to be beefed up for sure...but the underlying issue is nitrate, phosphate and low flow. How big is your tank? Parameters?

I can guarantee you have elevated nitrate and phosphate.

You need to manually siphon as much as possible out of the tank and remedy your nitrate issue with a large water change, along with running GFO to eliminate phosphate.

I agree with Mcgeezer. There is an underlying issue here. Manually remove all you can, increase water flow and water change. If you don't have GFO keep up with the water changes and get the nitrate and phosphate down. There are products such as chemiclean that will remove it however your tank will be out of norm for a bit and follow up water changes will be a must. It will remove the slime but you are essentially putting poison in your water. You will also in all likelyhood kill your snails and inverts as well. Good bye hermit crabs but it works. Me personally would never put it in my water but it does work. Increase flow, decrease nutrients and water change. Good luck!!!
