2 peppermints are 1 too many for a 29g. I would get rid of the hermits and replace with some snails. Hermits are scavengers and will also kill any snail they feel has a shell better than theirs

Current Tank Info: 625g, 220g sump, RD3 230w, Vectra L1 on a closed loop, 3 MP60s, MP40. Several QTs

i would not put a brittle star in a 29.

I would keep everything else. 2 peppermints are ok.

i wouldn't worry too much about the snails vs hermit thing, thats rare and can easily be remedied by putting extra empty shells in the tank, plus snails stick to the glass =P pun intended LOL

I would ditch all of it except the 5 trochus snails and maybe two of the hermit crabs. See how these do for awhile and then go from there.
Don't forget, you can keep the glass & the sand clean all by yourself. GL.

Lot's of people just don't realize that THEY are in fact the best janitor their tank will ever have. Everybody wants a pet but nobody want to clean up after them it seems.

You must have some very tame hermits. Nassarius and Astraea's are like a fine delicacy to my snails, even mexican turbos get taken out although they may have died first. The mini ceriths seem to be the only safe ones although they would not be an all day snack so I may not notice that.

Also, if you feed any LPS watch it for a couple minutes. I had a trumpet/candycane head that got its stomach ripped out after a feeding, it did recover after a few days though.

you must have some hungry hermits...

I have every single snail i ever put in (aside fom the recent crash issue) and the two nessarius i have had for 3 months now no problems.

even when my snails flip over, the hermits just scurry on by.

i do usually drop an algae wafer in teh tank once a week to make sure they atleast go go on killing rampages lol

So, do I have to have snails?

Personally, I can't stand them. I'd prefer all crabs and shrimp

you can put whatever you want.

there are benfits to each critter.

some snails can get algae growing in places crabs cant, and you dont want to try to reach...

like under overflow boxes in the corner against the glass LOL
