2 x MP40 or Gyre?
Setting up a new 48" tank and I have been using Reeflink with Radion G3 Pro and MP10w. I am not currently sure if I will be adding another Radion or going in a different direction, so I'm not too concerned about keeping everything Ecotech.
I am interested in thoughts about using 2 MP40w quiet drive pumps verus a Gyre. Obviously there is a significant price difference but that is not really a concern. I am more interested in which might be better for a mixed reef tank to ensure good and varied flow with as few dead spots as possible. Now that the Gyre has been out for a while, what are your thoughts on these two options? |

Have had MP40s for a long time but decide to try the Gyre. The Gyre is a good pump but two of the new quite drive MP40s (just got them) are off the chart in flow and excel at creating a random disturbance in my tank.
I do not think you can go wrong either way but my vote is for the Ecotech option. |

It's interesting to get feedback from people who have had both. Was it primarily power or the flow options that two pumps with various programs provides that swayed you toward the Ecotech? |

It was the flow options from two pumps. The quite drive pumps are easier to program, have plenty of flow and with the gyre I had the additional issue of cleaning it every month. Funny the quite drives made less noise then the gyre and a lot less then older MP40s.

Thanks for that. I'd also like more opinions from anyone else? I'm leaning toward the Ecotech at the moment.

i would probably do one Gyre or some jebao RW's, but if I had the money, two MP40's would be awesome.

Pretty much even in the poll at the moment. I wonder if the spread of flow in the gyre provides something that the MP40s cannot provide or is it simply lots of flow for the money.

I would go with 2 MP40s for redundancy alone. If something goes wrong with the Gyre, you have no flow left in your tank, but with 2 MP40s, you still have something going if one goes out. They are also a proven technology, and while the Gyre looks nice, I am not sold on it yet, and prefer to stick with proven.

A valid point. £600 for the pleasure though, although the poll is supporting the MP40 route. Strong showing for the Gyre though!
