Vertex Puratek - what happens during flush?

I have the Vertex Puratek 100GPD
I am not sure I understand the flush feature. This unit automatically flushes, is it OK to use the water during the flush or should it all go to waste?
Thanks

When flushing it runs water back over the membrane cleaning it. In regular use it uses water to transport waste out to drain, but doesn't flush the unit like the flush valve does. The waste water is transporting contaminates out, leaving you fresh water clean. So the waste water would not be ok to use.

I have the same unit, during flush almost all of the water is going to the waste and there is only a little amount of water coming from the white line, you can always use the water coming out of the white line (0 tds)
When you start it up it will flush automaticly and then every 2 hours in use it will flush again.

Great unit, i am very pleased with it.

I think what your talking about when you say automatic flush is that, when the filter is producing water , it produces around 25% clean water and uses the other 75% to transport the contaminates to the drain.

Even though it uses most of the water to flush out the contaminates from the clean water, its not really flushing off the RO membrane. When opening the flush valve it uses the water to flow over your RO membrane and flushes it off. So no fresh water is being produced at this time.

Unless your unit has some type of system that automatically opens the flush valve when the TDS rises above a certain point. But Ive never heard of anything like that yet. Ill have to look into this and see though.

This is what i mean.. but there are always some drips coming out of the R/O line, due to pressure in the DI filter i guess..

This unit will flush automatic when you start it up and then every 2 hours in use, so there is some sort of timer in it.

Is see what your talking about now. It looks like the deluxe edition has a controller that either flushes periodically or either when the TDS are elevated. I would think the unit wouldn't produce much clean water while its in flush mode. Probably functions the same way, just automatically instead of manually.

Either way , as long as the water is coming out of the clean side it should be ok to use. Otherwise they would have to totally shut off the clean side will in flush mode.
