Hey, thanks...

I just have seemed to notice that LEDs tend to make the tank look whiter...

While other lights tend to make the tank have more of a blue color... like this one seems to have...

What you are talking about is the "color temperature" of the lighting. It refers to the light something gives off when it is glowing hot. So a 5000K bulb has about the same color as something heated to 5000 degrees Kelvin.

Most FW setups tend to be in the 5000K-10,000K range where most SW setups go for 10,000K-20,000K to mimic the colors seen once the light goes through the water.

Depending on the type of lighting, there are several ways to achieve this look. For T5 fluorecent, its a matter of bulb selection / combination. MH tend towards the lower K values so folks add blue (actinic) supplementation to balance the yellow/white of the MH bulbs. LEDs come in a wide range of colors and the mixing of them combined with different currents per color allow them to be adjusted across a wide range of looks.

HTH,

Yeah, just trying to find out what kind of lighting it is that I like...

You can definitely tell the differences in lighting.

I like the "bluer" looking lights.

Does this guy have bluer lights in the back with whiter lighting in the front?

You can see the shimmer on the first video, so I would lean towards LEDs. You can make them as blue or as white as you want with different bulbs and controllable channels.

OK, so how do you get blue in the back and white in the front like in the video?

2 separate LED bars - one blue and one white?

Yep, the shimmer rules out T5.
And I doubt they would bother running MH with no coral.
Algae on the fake coral will be bad enough as it is, without a high powered MH.
So my bet goes to LED.

The shadows would hint at LED there too.

Looks like a heavily blue light over the whole tank and 2 relatively bright white spotlights in the middle.
