Kent Float Valve Problems

I purchased a few Kent Float Valves (ya know - the black boxy looking ones) and I have been having some problems. First, the compression cap that comes with it has leaked on all three. Second, when I replaced the compression cap on one, I am still seeing the water level rise over the period of several hours in my sump and "drown" the float. This is a gravity feed line, so there is no real pressure.

I had always thought that Kent was the top of the line for float valves. Are other people experiencing problems too?

FYI - two the float valves are just tertiary safety backups to redundant float switches. The third is for a gravity feed top off that has an emergency Normally On solenoid attached. But, I can't use the solenoid to manage this on a regular basis.
