lugol's solution? does it have to be aquarium branded?
I have an LPS that's not doing well at all. I've been advised to dip it in iodine/lugols.
I don't have any and the closest store that does is 2 hours or more away. Does it have to be Kent brand or similar, or could I possibly find it at GNC under another brand that's just as safe?

regular from the local pharmacy is just fine.. same stuff just without the extra "aquarium" markup.
same as "aquarium" silicone.. same as cal/alk/mag dosing chemicals.. |

Does it need to say lugols?
I've checked publix, GNC, and Walgreen's and no one has it.

You need to ask the pharmacist, it is not typically on the shelf. Might also be special order.

Talked to pharmacist friend about this, it is rare to find particularly in chain drugstores. Its just not used much anymore in pharmacies. Best bet is to find an old mom and pop type drugstore if there are any left. It may also be available in a alternative medicine type stores. Don't know about GNC. I haven't been able to find it at all even, at my LFS.

Lugols is a potassium iodide solution used originally for dye-ing slides if I remember correctly.
However, I have not used anything other than kent brand, nor can I recommend doing s without knowing concentrations. |

Since I am at least 1 1/2 hours away from any decent LFS
I utilize Amazon for much of my immediate need shopping. Especially if you can afford the Prime membership and get two day free shipping. I can order the Kent Marine Lugol's solution tonight and have it delivered to my door on Friday.
That being said, I try to buy as much as I can locally, but that requires at least a 1 1/2 hour drive. Heck, I'm going to have to drive five hours one way to pick up my new aquarium.m (If it ever comes in) |

I'll be ordering some online. I wish I could get it sooner.
Am I under the right impression it is just another dip like coralRx, or is it a medication?
