Are my green zoas ok ?

Hi everyone,

I recently discovered a pistol shrimp lurking in my tank

I did a freshwater dip with coral dip chemical for about 2 mins before he decided to give up.

Returned the rock back to the tank and the small zoas have been closed for second day now hope they will recover

Last test
SG 1.025 temp 26.5c ammonia O nitrate 0 nitrates 10 ph 8.2

This tank is about 20 weeks old

I know when I dip a coral in coral Rx, it takes a day or so for them to stop being p*ssed off and open up. If they don't open up in a day or so, then I would get worried.

Didn't know seachem made a coral dip(reef dip or so they call it). Looking at the 2, and reading their respective info sheets. The major difference is seachem uses iodine, where coral Rx uses a special blend of all natural extracts(smells a lot like citrus), no iodine.

Seachem looks to only treat coral specific diseases, with a special blend of something to give them an extra protection of a slime coat(doesn't state if it treats for nasty hitchhikers). Where as the coral Rx treats the same thing but also treats for flatworms, bristle worms, spiders, nudibranch's, etc, etc.

Wish I could help you a little more, but not knowing the product your using, doesn't help me help you any either. Sorry.

Many thanks for the reply

It took out a few bristle worms before it got the shrimp so it worked , I wouldn't of thought it would affect the zoos , but like u say wait a few more days before getting worried , it might be Murphy's law but I think some are starting to open .

My largest hermit has been enjoying the rock as well I guess there is a some worms there waiting for the picking , I watched him walk over the colony but didn't stop for photos

The zoanthids probably just need a little bit more time to recover from the dip, but from that picture you posted you might want to look into Zoa Pox. I may be seeing things, but it looks as though there's a bunch of white dots all over the polyps. This will cause them to stay closed for extended periods of time.

Thanks Cloak,

I hadn't noticed any white spots on the zoas i will look closer tonight.

I had a quick look this morning before i left for work they were still closed however my timers for lights hadn't kicked in they come on at 10am giving me more viewing time after work hours i recently reduced the photo period to 10hrs.

In this picture i circled these little white worms theres heaps on these around the rock do you think they annoy the zoas ? atleast i assume they are worms

I did the same thing when I got my first zoa, assumed the white dots were zoa pox. It ended up being just bits of my sand being blown into them.

The "worms" your seeing look to me to be the tentacles of a spaghetti worm. If you look real close and follow the little tentacle, you'll probably find out its coming from a hole in a rock. My xenia had what looked like white strings coming off of it. When I posted a pic in a thread, someone mentioned it looked to be a spaghetti worm. Moved the xenia(actually re aquascaped my entire tank) and could actually see the hole the tentacles were coming from.

FYI that bottom bunch does look like it has zoa pox. Might want to check that out, and make sure its just sand bits and not actual little white bumps on the polyp.
