Duncan flesh issue

I have researched possible causes for tissue loss on corals, but im utterly confused with my tank.

I noticed today a section of my duncan has completely been ripped open, my way of describing. Inagine skin off a bone.

My parameters from a test today seem unlikely asca culprit and have been completely stable for a long time.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 1
Phosphate 0.5
Ph 8.3
Calcium 490
Mag 1250
Alk 10.5
Salinity 1.025/6

All elos test kit.
I slso noticed another section with "pits" in it. Imagine swiss cheese wrapped around the skeleton. Is it a possible nudibranch? Another pest?
Can peppermint shrimp do this?

I recently replaced bulbed and went from a 2 bulb t5ho to a 4 bulb. I doubt that would cause a duncans flesh to start peeling.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

With no pictures, your imagery makes me think something was nipping at it... vigorously from the sound of it.

Could either be nipping from a fish, my clownfish loved eating duncan stalk flesh, it tastes great to fish and other inverts, the other possibility is that u didnt properly acclimate ur corals to ur new lights. U basically doubled the output by adding two more fixures that can really harm corals.

I had a eunicid worm that I discovered after big chunks started going missing from corals. Could be something like that as well. Check at night after lights out with a red light, see who's out for a snack.

Makes sense, but the duncan was on the sandbed from the get go... How else would I acclimate it?

It doesn't look like a lighting issue to me, lighting usually causes a retreat, not a full out vanishing like that.
Following to see what you find out and hoping someone with more experience chimes in. Good luck!

Mine was actually a very small one and not nearly as dramatic looking as pics I've seen. I started hunting it when corals started getting eaten bite by bite. My Kenya tree had a really big piece taken out of it. I actually suspected a worm because I realized the corals near holey areas of the rock were the main victims. I managed out of luck to see the thing one night. Ick. As luck would have it, he withdrew into a small rock which I took out. The problem never came back, so I think I was lucky.

Hopefully you don't have one of these, but something to be aware of.

Good luck with ID'ing the culprit!

i haven't found any pests.

and yes i doubt it was lighting either. too fast.

it was like RTN for Duncans

i woke up today and tried to move the duncan and all the flesh just gooped out into the water. i hope it doesn't affect anything else.

it smelled BAD. so i tossed it =(

Looks like tissue necrosis, likely due to a Helicostoma notatum infection.

And what causes it?

Thanks!
