Minimum Size to a QT?

Is there a minimum size to a quarantine tank? I was thinking of either a 10 or 15 gallon QT. I am planning to setup a 30 gallon display tank. I plan to put in a purple firefish goby and then two clownfish after the goby is finished with the QT.

Too small or is 10-15 gallon ok? is it ok for me to put two clowns in at the same time in a 10-15 gallon QT?

Sounds fine for what you've described. ive done 6 fish varying from 1 to 3 inches in length all at once in a 10g myself with no issue, Cant imagine you'd have any trouble with a max of 2 fish in there at once.

Also kudos for having things so well planned out and (planning) on stocking lightly. your already taking a step in the right direction.

I'll agree - you sound off to a fine start.

FWIW, I've QT'd a couple small fish in a 5 before. A chalk bass and an electric blue damsel. The bass went in a day before the damsel and apparently established some territory that lasted well beyond QT - interestingly, even after being transferred to my DT 6 months ago, the damsel is still the one fish that gets picked on in my tank. Even by the bass. The meanest fish in my tank gets picked on by the tamest

cool thanks for the info guys.

i guess i should've put in the full story...i have a 15 gallon i used for fresh water with a hood and lighting that has a surface crack on the bottom of the tank. i was wondering if i should try to repair it and use it. The other option is to go to petco and buy another 10, but then i'd have to buy the hood and what not too.

any ideas on how to fix the crack or just go buy a new setup?

neither. Buck-a-gallon sale (tank only), small powerhead, small heater. Done.

I use a simple 10G setup with a heater, HOB filter, and powerhead. Costs me all of 50$ for the entire setup. The most expensive part was the korralia 425(30$). Then again I only have a 30G DT, so anything going in QT is rather small to begin with.

I personally wouldn't use anything metal(rust corrosion, etc). I would opt for a fabric screen, or some egg crate. I use eggcrate on mine.

I use a 5g for QT as I never quarantine s anything large. Works great for small fishes. But when Petco has their $1/gal sale, 10g is best value. For bigger fishes, either a 20gal long will be a great value at $1/gal sale.

actually one more follow up question... what if i decide to upgrade my tank in the future and went with tangs. 10 gallon QT way too small for them for 4 weeks? how would you QT bigger fish?

It really depends on the size of the purchased fish and how many you qt at a time.
