Just getting back

I'm running a new set up that ui started the old school straight from tap mix in salt add a few fish some base rock and let it do its thing but when I got startedudergravel filters wit power heads were all the craze now I hear sumps protein skimmers never used any befor and my only other intended piece of filtration was to have been fluval canister so I'm a sponge feed my hungry brain but try to justify your advice so I can make truly informed choices
