Really thick brown from skimmer

Have this really thick brown dirt like skimmate coming off skimmer. What is this? Why is it so thick and hard?

I'm guessing it's accumulating on the side of the cup, drying, and falling down.

Also, I'm making a real effort to be mature here and not make a dirty joke referencing the wording in your original post. haha

Heh, to be serious, your skim is foamy and white because youbhave a younger tank with a bioload that is still being determined. The waste that does get skimmed off is less than it will be once established so your skim will be clumpy from excess food and waste as well as your skimmate will probably look more like green tea once the foam breaks down. Give it time, once your bioload is fully established it will darken more. If lucky and working well, almost black.

On a more serious note....

Great info CafeReef!
I have always wondered why my skimmate looks more like green tea then a thick brown substance I've seen posted many times. Although over the course of the last week or 2 it has gotten darker and thicker, I chalked it up to the skimmer finally getting broken in. Guess it was just cause my tank is only a couple months old.

Again thanks for the tip CafeReef.
