How Much Does a Goby Proect the Shrimp
I was reading snorvitch's check you purchase thread and learned that my chalk bass won't abide little shrimps, i didn't know about the thread when I got him
Is that true when they are paired with a YWG? Thought maybe I could get them buddied up in qt, so the shrimp would have cover when they come into the dt? But at $26 a pop, randalli's are a pricy snack for the bass. |

I can only say that after 2 years together, the shrimp killed the YWG and took out several firefish before I caught him. I don't recommend the pairing.

Bah humbug skater. My YWG and shrimp have been best buds for years. He is a model citizen. Although I'm certain the shrimp has taken out several fish. Maybe a peppermint shrimp or two. A fireshrimp. Most of my hermits(best thing anything has ever done for my tank, I hate those evil critters) He moves a ton of sand around occasionally causing my rock work to shift and usually finds my best looking, most expensive new frag to drag into his cave at night to close the opening but other than that he has been perfect

It's supposed to be a tiger pistol. I've never actually seen him kill anything. Just assumed it was him when an otherwise healthy fish or shrimp was there in the morning but MIA in the evening. I was really just being funny my YWG pistol pair are actually one of my favorite things to watch in my tank. But then again I have a Quaker parrot as well that I love and he's a jerk so that explains a lot.

My yasha goby tries to protect my candy cane pistol shrimp whenever it's out, but the goby is so skittish if push came to shove I doubt he'd actually save the shrimp from a predator

Tiger pistol was the species that went rogue in my tank. He had about maxed out in size, and the fish he did in were all ones that den low at night.

Yeah, the Randalli is supposed to be milder, idk if that's what yonp11's "candy cane" is, mine has bright red and white stripes. Wikipedia says the snappers are one of the largest genus of shrimp! But idk how much stock to put in our pets reputations for aggressiveness, like people say pit bulls are mean but the ones I know are friendly, but some of our stock is straight from the wild so maybe there's more to it?
I guess it would have a lot to do with the goby as well, good point yonp11, the yasha's don't look very intimidating. Lol@ laugh, I was picturing the shrimp running around like a maniac laying down the law on those hermits Thanks again snorvitch! The chalk is my fav cause he suffered all my first-fish mistakes with aplomb, and I'm really psyched to watch the shrimp / goby settle in. I'm done stocking now with those guys, a melanurus, and 4 chromis (I didn't know better) in my 55. |

ugh. nevermind.
Just happened to walk by the tank in time to see the chalk bass acting barfy, he spit up a tiny red and white tail right before my eyes. The shrimp had busted his big claw off during shipping, and the goby was still in qt. I was gonna have the shrimp in there with him but the shrimp shipped at 1.025 while the goby came at 1.016 so I figured it would be easier to just have the shrimp in the DT for a while. I thought he'd hide under the rocks until his claw got better and I was target feeding him in his burrow, which looks undisturbed so I guess he went for a wander and got chomped. I got a refund cause of the busted claw, maybe I'll just use it to buy some plastic sponge bob decors stupid circle of life |
