CFL Lighting
Hey All -
First let me start off and say that I'm new to the hobby and my knowledge is limited. So I bought a 125 gallon tank off of Craigslist a couple months back and I'm slowly putting it together. The tank came with two 36" Coralife CFL lights (tank is 72" long").. and each light comes with two 96w bulbs. That's a total of about 400W in output combined. I'm just curious... are those lights enough to get started with? I plan to upgrade to T5/MH in the future but just curious if those lights can hold me off for a few months while I save for something good? Mind you, that I plan to slowly introduce fish and corals. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks! Matt |

Yes, those will be enough to get started with. But PC bulbs are fairly expensive, so I wouldn't spend any money on replacement bulbs, just save it for your T5/MH purchase.

Yeah, they've gone up in price now that fewer people use them. There's nothing wrong with getting the tank cycled and stable with them, but I'd look to replace the whole fixture before buying another PC bulb.
