Just FYI, some black sand is ferrous, so when you bring your magnetic cleaner near it, it can pick up some of it and scratch your glass/acrylic.

I've used Nature's Own brand, black aragonite live sand and I love it. Makes the colors pop on everything. Just had to rinse it very well in saltwater water first.

I've used the Carib Sea Hawaii black sand in a nano previously. I thought it was a cool, interesting look and its not magnetic. You do see detritus more easily in my opinion so will need some sifters or the ability to siphon the bed periodically.

Do you think some sand sifting stars would work ?

No. Not really a good species to keep in a new tank.

I have the Hawaiian black and I can confirm it is not ferrous and does not attract to magnets.

Will it help with what? If your talking about heat, it hasn't affected my tank in any negative way.

Trying to get that blue look to the water from the lighting, not sure if it's led or what gives it the blue or purple glow

The actnic lights are what give the "blue" look. That would be a lighting choice, nothing to do with the sand.

I'm my picture the day lights and actnic are both on. If I turned the day lights off it would be the "blue" water you are looking for.

Thanks! That was my theory as well and so far so good with the few fish I have. There's nice contrast when they zoom across the sand.

I'm starting with some beginner corals soon. Hopefully some zoas and green star polyps first. I'm still research what I would like to add.

I haven't even thought about what type myself, figured I'd get the fish established first and go from there xD, that black sand should make those colors stand out though
