How to clean glass??

I always wanted a tank with low iron glass, and now I am afraid to clean it. I was going to use Magic Eraser? I also have a HammerHead Floating cleaner, but wonder if thats to much. I have heard good things about the new Tunze scrapper, but wondering if that is safe

Any Thoughts

Derek

Any of the magnetic cleaners are fine but be very careful you don't get any sand on the cleaner or it will scratch the glass. You also need to remove the cleaner from the tank when it is not in use or it will accumulate detritus and coraline algae that can scratch the glass.

I have a Starphire front and regularly use the blade on The Flipper to clean it. No scratches so far after 6 months.

Magic eraser works great for me on acrylic, just make sure it's the original. As for my magnet, I swear by my "might magnet"

I reccomend a gold old fashioned credit card. It wont scratch and surface area to small to hold sand. Everyone will tell u a scotch brite is fine but i swear i scratched glass with it

1" acrylic here.

Used a very strong Mighty Magnet rated for 1.25". Use 3 slices of Magic Eraser on the wet side.

Use a Kent acrylic scraper to get coralline and to clean the sides. I don't use a magnet on the sides since I have a huge rare earth magnet on each end holding a WP60.

Also for the sides I rubberband a slice of magic eraser on the scraper.

I did scratch the tank badly with the second step up in Mighty Magnet cleaning pads. Used their scratch removal kit to get most of the scratches out. Fun!

New Tunze Care Mag cleaner.
we have 16ft of starfire to clean every day, its almost impossible to scratch the glass with that, you can even get into every corner and the sand bed too. Brilliant product, best investment ive made with this new tank.

you wont regret it. You just have to get used to it turning corners, i dropped it a few times at first but never since. Secret is to keep it in an upright position, and and sort of slide it around the edge of the tank. You will get used to it.
Its shortened my tank cleaning time to about 10 mins a day, instead of 30 mins & scratches.

I have the Red Sea Reefer 450. It has 1/2glass, what Tunze would be the right one? The two larger ones are they the same just different shapes?

TIA Derek

+1 on the Tunze Care Magnet.
I have 1/2" starphire glass and prefer the Strong. I've used both the Strong and the Long.
The long was good for the dusty stuff, but the brown or green staining kind won't come off with the plastic blade, you would have to switch to the metal blade. The Strong takes care of it all with the plastic except for coralline.

I think the only difference between long & string is rated for different glass thickness. Long from memory is up to 15mm. Strong is up to 19mm. I don't think their is much different in shape but I am not positive.

in the mean time I was getting Magic Erasers. Is the heavy duty the same, or does it have an additive?

TIA Derek

I just got the nano care magnet delivered. I like it. A lot. When I upgrade my tank, I'll go for the large!
Thanks lllesley!

I would not use a scotch brite pad!! Absolutely never ever again!!

Scratched the hell out of my biocube(glass) using a scotch brite pad to get coralline off. Now I just use the flipper magnet. Works perfectly, and absolutely 0 chance of scratching the glass even near the bottom(sand falls out of the scraper instead of setting in there and scratching the p*ss out of your glass).

On a side note, any way to get minor scratches out of glass that doesn't require me emptying my tank?
