Giving some frags to my neighbor's daughter

A year or so ago I gave my neighbor's daughter, she was eleven then, an old 30g setup I scavenged from the closet of stuff. She was always over looking at my tank and asking questions.

She has done very well with a FOWLR. Stayed with it and continued to read and research. She thinks she is ready to try some corals now. So I gave her some easy to keep ones. Some mushrooms, finger leather and a bit of Kenya tree.

It is very rewarding watching a young one learn and the looks of amazement.

I think she will do fine. After talking with her dad and mom I think she may be getting a larger tank for Christmas.

Let them know the $ per gallons sale at Petco starts around the 1st of July. Great thing you are doing. I take kids fishing with me that can't otherwise go on their own. It's a great feeling to share and teach what we know and love doing

I wish I had a neighbor like that

Honestly! being 15 years old getting all of the equipment for running a tank is expensive, especially when your parents don't want to help
I would love if my neighbor gave me a tank

I honestly had forgot I had some of the stuff packed up in totes. It is fun to watch when we go to the LFS, she "grills" an employee about a fish.

100 percent awesome man, I would have loved to have someone help me out when I was in my teens. I had to wait until I was 31 to have a saltwater tank and I wish I would have started way earlier. Kudos sir, well done!

Me and my local lfs owner had a standoff on who knew more about fish and care and tank sizes...

Guess who won

I think that's great, sparks curiosity and a natural sense of wanting to learn more.
I use to help the old lady next door when I was very young, she had a pond that just sparked my fascination for all things water related.
I got my first FW tank at 7.
My neighbor here has a 4 year old girl, she likes to feed my koi, so I just gave her a Beta and small tank.
They may be in trouble when they see my reef after it's set up!

Yeah it is great watching them learn. I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I am thinking of seeing if she wants to go to the next DD open house.

Have you made friends in a local club yet? I bet there's some established tanks in your neck of the woods that would like to help a kid get started with frags and such. You might have a friendly neighbor you just haven't met yet

There are a couple of us around locally. I am in a pretty rural area. My neighbor has a dairy farm and he is about a quarter mile away.
