250w mh on a 40g breeder

The tank is about 15" deep. How much distance should there be from the water? Currently softies, mushrooms/ricordia, and lps. I want to add some sps in the future.

Try 15" and see how it goes.
I have one mh and four t5 over my 40b frag tank.

Calvin and Hobbs Current Tank Info: 40b mixed reef with 20g sump. Mg 9.5 return pump running GFO and GAC. Reef Octopus DNW-150 protein skimmer. DIY stand and canopy with 2x 250w MH and 4x 39w vho t5s. Reefkeeper elite controller.
