Best skimmer money can buy for a 75g

Hey all,

My current system is a 75G DT with a 35g frag tank plumbed into it. I'm keeping a mixed reef that I primarily focus on SPS. I also happen to have 15 fish. My largest fish is a Lineatus wrasse so most of the fish are between 1-3" (no large fish basically).

With my tank in mind what is the absolute best skimmer I could put on this system if money wasn't an issue? Also the skimmer must be an in sump skimmer. I was thinking a BK mini 160 once they come back in stock in September. I would love to hear other peoples ideas and hopefully you can include a description of why the skimmer you recommend is the best choice for the job.

Just upgraded mine to a Lifereef SVS3-24. Was going to go with Reef Dynamics but they recently shutdown. Give Jeff at Lifereef a call and he will set you up.

No reason to spend that kind of money...

Aquamaxx CO-1 or CO-2

Aquamaxx is a nice skimmer line. I had a ConeS 3 on a 180. I currently have a SuperMarin250 and love it. PM Slief on here, he has alot of info on the bubblekings if you are leaning that way

The vertex omega 150 is a great skimmer

IMO, if you could set them all on a table and pick any one you wanted for free, that is truly the best! I say this because if money is not the limiting factor, you are fooling yourself into making a choice or a suggestion in any other way.

Hands down I would go with a Coral Box. I have the D500 and I love it.

Best skimmer money can buy is the Royal Exclusive Bubble King with Red Dragon pump. Whether you need one for a 75G tank is up to you.

For that size tank you could go with a Royal Exclusiv double cone 150. Like a previous poster suggested pm Slief. He will get you squared away.

Thanks for all the input guys. Sounds like a Bubble King is the way to go. I just can't decide between the double cone 150 or waiting for a BK mini 160. I'll message Silef and see what he has to say.

BK mini 160 is a little on the large size for your tank.

Thanks for sending him my way. I wanted to chime in but held off at risk of sounding biased since my recent affiliation with Royal Exclusiv. I say that despite being a long time Bubble King user.

Yes and no.. The new 160's will include the RD3 pump which will allow for much better control over the skimmer. It also has a small enough neck diameter that it would work pretty well on that size tank. Personally, I prefer the pumps outside the body so if it were between the Mini with a standard pump and the double cone 150, I'd lean towards the Double Cone. It's a shame the Double Cone 150's aren't available with the RD3.. If they did include the Rd3, that would be a really great combination. I would assume that is coming in the future but I have yet to confirm that. I will however inquire about that as I am now curious..

I currently have a Cone-S 1 skimmer on my SPS/LPS/Zoa well-stocked 75 and am ok with it. But I'm daily adjusting it to get more skimmate and every week or two, it overflows requiring that I start all over again.

I used to run a SRO 2000INT on this tank and it did not work. Went from nothing to overflowing every other day.

I run a SRO 3000INT on my SPS dominated 180 and it works well.

According to Jeremy of Coral Vue/RO, whose opinion is golden with me, the SRO 1000INT is the best fit for a heavily stocked 75. So I'm leaning heavy towards the 1000 INT, but I'm waiting for a lull in my reef expenditures to sneak that one past she who must be obeyed.

Mike

The BK Double 150 with an RD3 would be a dream come true!

I'd go with a Deltec re-circ skimmer and just put it in the sump.

I have an Amaxx cone S3 on my 100g total system volume and it works well, but no where near as good as my old Deltec AP-703 on 160g volume system.

I never had to use any other export tools with the Deltec. No GFO,macro, carbon dosing, ect. Ran .03 PO4 and no NO3 for 8 years with it and 10% weekly water changes.

I don't disagree with what others are saying about the BK & Aquamaxx line, but I've never run them before. The reviews are always great.

Right now I'm using the RLSS-i8 skimmer for my 90 gallon and I am more than impressed with it. I think these skimmers are overlooked.
