Inflow/Outflow positioning. Does it make a difference?

I'm upgrading from a 55 to a 75 tank, and now have an opportunity to fiddle a bit with my Reef Octopus 2000bh positioning. Currently, my skimmer is in the middle of the tank with powerheads on both sides. I re angle the powerheads every few days to kick up any settled detritus that may have found dead spots.

Should the skimmer unit be placed on one end of the tank? (kind of like the principal Amano uses in planted tanks with the lily positioning) or should I just put it in the middle and use powerheads to create various flows around the rocks?

My planted tank is a little different since the in/out are at different levels. The skimmer unit has both in/out near the surface, so I'm not sure if the same principals still apply.
