s type rotifers, brachionus rotundiformis

hi guys, not sure if i've posted this on rc before, but i gotta vent.
last week i ordered some s types from a canadian supplier and it finally arrived yesterday. i also ordered parvocalanus and some mixed zooplankton.
all three bottles were 'dead'. nothing alive.
i found a few rotifer carcases but nothing alive. i've held the bottles aside and took the lids off. i put half the dead roti bottle in a wide top one litre container and topped it off with dunaliella and nanno. in the hopes that some of the cysts hatch and start a new culture. i highly expletive doubt it.
as for the blend and the parvo, there's nothing i think i can do to get a culture out of it.
i've contacted the guy, but recieved no emails back.
i'm a little miffed. it wasn't cheap and finding s type rotis here in southern ontario has been a pita.
anyone got any other sources?
and what do you guys think?
martyn

Already I am amazed you found a supplier of s strain Rotifera in Canada! Sucks that they're all dead , plus bad customer service.
Were they supposed to have a guarantee for shipping problems or sudden weather change which could kill off the culture?!?

Sorry for your bad luck, have you checked to see if reedsmariculture shipes to canada? Ive always had very good luck with them.

Actually it looks like aquatic eco systems is a distributer for reeds

i ordered from copepodsdotca, never talked about guarantees or anything. i still haven't heard back from him. i'll keep sending him emails til i get a response.
i'm used to dubiousness in this hobby.
i'll update you guys on whether or not something happens about this.
canada post screwed up the delivery and gave me the 'we don't ship live animals' diatribe, so i feel i'm screwed.

thanks for the tip.
i've gotta get some s types from somewhere. someone in this country is selling them. i can't be the only hobbyist here needing them.

yep.... and i wasn't aware of that fact, until after the fact.

now i'm smart enough to know i'm stupid, but c'mon, this argument is the obvious one for the supplier.
but the guy's not replying to my emails yet.
perhaps he'll read this and do the right thing.
he's got another day or so before i take any action.
and canada post won't do bugger all about it.

For your stonogobiops I presume ...
Here's a picture of my couple before I had to empty my tank on account that it was leaking...

I was never able to feed the fry.

I am now looking for a male yasha to give it another shot.
So I'm super interested in the outcome of this story.
I have visited their website and it does mention that some cultures they do not ship within certain temperature range. So I 'm guessing they're fully aware or shipping issues.

Yes s is hard to get here too and ss is impossible it seems. Your rotifer culture will probably be fine. I abuse mine ignore them than occasionally fix their salinity and add algae and they come back. They show up in places I don't want them......

Parvo's are a lot more finicky. I'm glad to see you were trying to get ahold of some.

Algagen is coming out with 3 new pods that are supposed to be easier to handle then parvo's so I'd wait till they get their issues worked out and try to get some of those. They are kinds also being used in breeding.

I'm patiently (ok not patiently) waiting for algagen to get their stuff together. My LFS says that they are telling him they are waiting on labels for the bottles and they sold what they had at MACNA. So I"m waiting for the new ones.

thanks kiz for the vote of confidence.
the dead jar that was supposed to have a plankton mix in it has actually yielded a few rotundaformis. i'm figuring about a month of culture and i could have something. i've given them all three phytos and i'm trying to keep the temp up for them. it's that time of year when temp swings happen here in canada.
i was hoping the dead parvo would yeild something but nothing.
i've really gotta get some t iso culture. hey kiz, is the iso culture from florida aqua farms the same as t iso? they list it as galbana. i'm not sure if they're the same. i had a bugger of a time culturing it from plate.

i've got a link through a canadian reef board that's willing to bring stuff in for me. they bring reed mariculture stuff. i'm really excited about the algagen stuff. thanks. i'll ask if they can get a hold of some for me.
it's gonna be expensive, but worth it.
i've gotta get to florida.

yep absolutely thumbs up.
hey ginpang, nice gobies. they're really cute. it'd be nice to have someone else breeding these as well. we could teach each other stuff. yashas would be a great idea.
you're right about this thread. i've got clutch number twenty from last night floating in a couple of rearing vases. i don't expect much after weds.
ireally need some smaller plankton.

Sorry Gogo7 didn't see your follow up question. I have got iso from florida aqua farms on plate once it grew well the other time nott so much. I'm finding I don't have the patience for growing iso. Is it the same, not sure. I know when I managed to keep my culture going that the pods loved it so I think so but I have zero biology background and I'm working to catch up myself.
