AI prime... On biocube hood.
Hey guys, so I've come across wanting a better light for my biocube and wanting to keep the hood on it. What are your thoughts if I bought an AI Prime led light and have it so its on the hood of my biocube 29?
Would that also be the light I get? Or should I get something stronger? |

Yea, I was looking at that but there is no way I could build that. The only thing I'd have to do to my hood is make the hole for the Ai prime and mount it...

I'm currently using a prime on my nc28, and am getting great results. As far as retrofitting it, I suppose it can be done, but your better of ditching the canopy and getting a light mount kit.

What would I put though to at least have some type of protection incase fish jump? Or just anything happening? I'm so glad it's working for you. Some people were saying it's not enough lighting... But how could you go wrong with $200 on a light that could do that much.

Anyway, no cutting, can keep the moon lights if you want. Steve's has a different fan so you don't use the existing. Rapids uses stock fans although I upgraded them. In either case both systems will make the little tank so bright you will want a dimming kit for acclimation and/or adjustments.

If that question is to me, both kits could house any coral since they had more than enough light. It was just a issue of water quality.
Steve's kit I had birds nest, hammer coral, green star polyps, golden leather, and Kenya trees. I don't remember how much live rock was in there but it was from my former 100 gallon tank and it had about a 4" deep sand bed. The tank with Rapid LED's had the rose bubble tip anem that started as one, but turned into three. Green star polyps, Kenya tree, some green button polyps and mix match of zoa's. Tanks are combined now into a 40 breeder. The bubble tips are almost too big for this, well, prevents me from adding some additional corals, so planning a 180 to 250 gallon now. More than likely this will be it so the bubble tips need to get their act together and behave In all honesty though, LED's are interested and have a lot of potential. BioCubes are nice in that you have a few options to tuck them in the default hood yet still not worry about heat. They are protected which is another plus. And, if you look at the kits then the hood 9 out of 10 times you can use just about everything in there such as fans and moon lights. Only thing I really didn't care for with regards to the cubes is that you do need to clean the plastic protective cover about every other month or so.
