Fish Selection Help and more
Alright so i've been super patient with 2 ocellaris clowns in a 29 gallon quarantine tank for about 9 weeks. I just moved them to the main display tank... 150 gallon tank 30 gallon sump.
I'm now looking to get the next fish in the QT tank. I'm wondering what is the best way to do this. I currently only have 2 ocellaris clowns in the DT nothing in the QT tank. Someday this will be a reef tank with some basic corals etc. I'm looking for some fish suggestions that would do well with the 2 ocellaris clowns, be reef friendly, and be aesthetically fun yet functional. I'm also looking to have a couple inverts that will all play nice together in this tank. I was thinking of getting a few tangs, yellow tang, blue tang, powder blue tang. Thoughts on these 3 tangs? I'm also unsure of how I would properly add these fish... everything i've read says to add them to the tank at the same time to prevent aggressiveness towards each other. They all seem to require larger tanks. How would I accomplish this with a 29 gallon QT tank? Is it ok to put them in there at the same time even though the tank is small being that it's only for a 7-8 weeks? or am i missing something here completely? What other fish comes to your mind as good tank mates? With inverts, do I need to QT or can I add directly to display tank was thinking of starting with a banded coral shrimp... thoughts? Being the display tank is on the new side is there a certain period of time i should be waiting before adding the banded coral shrimp? Thanks everyone for your help.

As for the tangs. Yes all at the same time gives you the best success, however i'd maybe do one tang, possibly two as its only 150 gallons. Cuc doesn't need QT (at least in my experience as I've never had a problem. Dwarf angels are a great addition. Foxface is one of my fav's. Maybe a trio of anthias. Tons of options. I even have a docile moray eel in my tank who really makes it neat.

I would limit the tangs to two at the most in your tank. Powder Blue Tangs while I think the most beautiful of all the tangs are also one of the most difficult to keep. They are very susceptible to ick and very aggressive towards other tangs to the point that is you did decide you wanted the Powder Blue I would not add any other tangs.
Your 29 gallon tank would be fine for quarantining the new tangs, but I would start with smaller specimens. If you do go with two tangs I would quarantine them at the same time, let them duke it out in the QT rather than the DT. A lot of times keeping them in a smaller QT will actually prevent some of the aggression. As far as other tank mates, I would look at any of the flasher wrasses. A dwarf angel would also be a great fish, although they are sometimes problematic with nipping at corals if you do end up going to a reef tank. I'm not a fan of coral banded shrimp. They will attack and kill any fish that they can get a hold of. |

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input.
I will stick to two tangs, probably a yellow tang and i'll have to figure out another. Maybe i'll start out with a pistol shrimp and and a sand sifting goby.
