My MACNA 2015 Lecture Summaries
It did not appear that the MACNA lectures were video recorded for general access this year - i.e. as they were last year by BRS. I took notes in the 14 lectures I attended over the 3 days. I'm in the process of documenting these on my blog so if anyone is interested head over to http://blog.cayugaaquatics.com
for full write ups of each one as I generate them. Let me know if you like them or if you heard differently please chime in on the comments. Best, Steve Lowes |

Very cool! I was kinda bummed they didn't record the lectures again this year as I would have enjoyed seeing them again.

Thanks Steve I was sucked into the vendor vortex this year and missed a lot of the lectures.

And I missed most of the exhibition floor buzz. Thankfully that seems to be covered by YouTube vids and several product bloggers.

Excellent - thanks for doing this. Bookmarked.
Anything "revolutionary" or ground breaking, like new information on coral maladies or something like that? |

I think everyone takes something different from MACNA lectures. I'm trying to catch as much as possible for people to follow up with what is important to them. I did miss a few that probably also had valuable info. Hopefully this thread will bring that out too.
For me the underlying status of the hobby and it's future were of keen interest more so than a new technique or technology breakthrough. A couple of data focussed presentations from Ret Talbot and Charlie Veron along with Julian Sprungs revelations about palytoxin really grabbed my attention. However that's not to overshadow the great practical info from likes of Sanjay Joshi, Rich Ross, Joe Yaiullo, John Copollino, and Bill Wann (the last 2 of which I missed but heard great things about). There was also an excellent theme of aquarium keeping relevance and value to the ocean environment. In this age of growing criticism of aquarium (and any animal) keeping I took this as a call to start messaging the positive aspects of the aquarium hobby. Ret Talbot pulled me up on this though with sound advice - do it with data in hand and not just arbitrary passion. |

Latest lecture summary is regarding the talk of the legendary Dr Charlie Veron. I think it says something that Charlie traveled from Australia to speaK at MACNA. Kudos to John Copollino and team for making this work. Many may never appreciate what Charlie Veron has done and continues to do that influences our hobby in very positive ways.
