45G Peninsula - Gyre for better flow?
I have a 45 gallon peninsula tank that I'm hoping will be made up of almost 100% SPS. The tank is 3' long, 2' wide, and just over 1' tall. At present, I have two Jebao RW4s on the overflow end pushing water across the tank to the front of the peninsula. Flow is great near the powerheads, but the water tends to stack up at the front glass, creating a flow dead zone in this last one third, front area of the tank.
Instead of putting another small powerhead at the front of the tank pushing back towards the end of the tank, I've considered that a Maxspect Gyre 130 might be a better option for flow, while being aesthetically superior to boot. Given the tank is shallow, the sand may blow around quite a bit, but I'm not opposed to going to all relatively heavier crushed coral, or simply removing what is there and going BB or putting in some HDPE board for a base. This photos give you an idea of the setup of the tank (Jebaos not pictured, and will be much less rock in the tank than pictured). Thoughts? |

As an update, if anyone comes across this thread with a similar tank and is considering the gyre, I went with the 130 and its awesome, kicking out amazing flow even at 50%, I think my SPS are going to love it

Thanks for the follow up with your experience after getting it. Am thinking about one for a 25g and it's nice to see post-purchase feedback from others with the XF130.
BTW - very nice overflow design and tank design. Very clean. |
