First DIY ground up build! 29g plumbed tank looking for critique/advice!
I am currently cycling the first tank I've built/plumbed myself. I have a 10g freshwater and a 10g nano that is doing really well.
I am looking for criticisms and advice (and I guess showing off, I'm pretty proud) on aquascape, plumbing, flow, etc. I guess a few details: The tank is a standard 29g that I drilled three times. I am running (I guess) a herbie system with 2 90 degree spigots (syphon and emergency) that drain into a 10g (I know, I am planning on upsizing) sump that I built which has 3 chambers (protein skimmer and filter socks -> lil' fuge -> return). I am running an Eheim 1250 for a return and have a Tunze 6040 wave maker moving stuff around inside the tank. I built my own overflow box out of Lexan (pain in my ***) with limited tools and then painted it. It looks kinda honky, but works fine and I made it. My serious concerns have to do with the box. I plan on housing a golden dwarf eel in here and I am worried that my 1/4" gaps are too wide. I am confident (and plan on taking steps to ensure) that I can keep the eel out of the sump, but it would be tricky trying to fish it out of the overflow. Anyway, any kind of advice/comments are welcome, and thanks for the time. |

It looks good to me. You may try to silicone some plastic type screen with 1/8 size holes in it and maybe leave 1/8 space under it as well. That should work.
