Is this a tube anemonie or aiptasia??
Two images of the creature. It is in the center of the picture among the polyps.
Fully open its crown is 3 inches in diameter, the stem is 3/8" thick and 2" tall. http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/...psoguvryab.jpg http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4nqlooha.jpg |

Aiptasia usually don't have that many tentacles. I could be wrong I have just never seen one that large.

Never seen an aiptasia that large! The tentacles look to thick, Could it be a duncan perhaps? if you irritate it, does it fully retract into the rock, or does it retreat into a stony base?

I'm not 100% convinced that it's an aiptasia. However, it is an anemone, and NOT a tube anemone, and it is in the middle of a zoa colony... I'd get rid of it and I'm an anemone lover!

Thank you all for your confirmation!! As it grew I started having doubts that it might be an imposter or a want-to-be aiptasia.
As I stated several times earlier, a year ago I had dozens of these when they were tiny. I got a peppermint shrimp that ate all except this one. The two get along just fine. I'll keep him as a good luck charm |
