curve 9 vs curve 7

So i have been researching lots lately especially skimmers , i have decided on bubble magus as i can obtain locally . I had decided on the curve 7 however when i was in the fish store the clerk was really helpful !

He showed me the curve 7 and also suggested me the curve 9 and said if i had
the room it would be a good idea for extra cleaning ! My tank is a 300 l or 79
gallon and planning on building a 40 gallon sump !

I have heard mixed reviews on the curve 9 as some say its noisy , some say it goes away and some say the extra noise is worth it . Cost wise i am not concerned , thinking a curve 9 would be overkill ?

Any thoughts would be great

What is your intended stocking? I typically overstock and therefore select larger skimmers. I would also recommend the Seaside Aquatics over the BM. Same exact skimmer but a better pump (sicce).

I have not yet decided how heavily stocked it will be at first or ever but would like a skimmer in case i choose to go heavier i dont have to upgrade in the future and buy one skimmer

I had the Curve 5 in my 75 gal. Great simmer, never a issue, and dead quiet. Was rated for 140 gallons. Not sure you would want to go much bigger. Get to big and they just don't work consistently. When it comes to a skimmer, bigger isn't always the best approach. In your case i'd say the 5 would be perfect. Put the $1-$200 dollars you save by going with the smaller model vs the larger into your return pump, or a JBJ True temp controller and heater.

When you say Heavily stocked, how many fish are you planning in a 79 gal? Your gunna be limited to amount and size of fish. Not like a 300 gal with 3 or 4 large tangs. Curve 5 or something size equivalent would be fine. Have you looked at the Nyos skimmer? Look pretty cool. Hopefully someone could give you a opinion on them.

I have a 80 gal frag with sump. Running a Rlss R6-I 6. Its rated at 100-150 gal. I would recommend this skimmer as well if you wanted to spend a lil more cash. Being a DC motor you have more adjustment then the Curve.

The Curve 7 tank ratings are 185-240 and given that these are usually exaggerations I think this would fall right in line for a moderately to heavily stocked 75-120 gallon tank. Again, the SSA ES7 is the same exact design just with a Sicce pump. I believe BM are made by SSA and the BM is just a cheaper option with a cheaper pump.

Originaly i planned on a curve 7 as the ratings are not actual , the curve five seems small in my mind however im new to the hobby ! will check out other lines and see what i can find

When i got this tank i figured id be limited on size of fish , thinking smaller fish will be my option clowns and such , finding theres alot to this hobby as far as decissions

Oh ok good point. From what I've heard (no personal experience) BM is still a quality skimmer so you should be quite happy

That is the skimmer i was referring to. Only thing i see is that is the standard Rlss 6 and i have the Rlss R6 I6 model. Has the DC 4000 vs the 3000 dc model. Maybe that is the older model? Im not sure. But great skimmer either way. My 80 has 3 fish in it, so the load is very light. But i feed my corals daily. This skimmer will pull out a cup of light colored skim every week.

How quickly are you looking to set up your tank? My 80 will be coming down in about a month.
