Turn off ATO to refill kalk stirrer?

How do you guys refill your kalk stirrer?

Turn the ATO off for a while to let it settle?

That's what I do: keep it turned off until the powder settles at the bottom.

I add a little ro/di to my sump. Then also turn one of my feed mode timers on my apex that is setup just to turn off the ATO for 4 hours.
