My 14G Biocube Build

Hey started building a 14g biocube a month ago. I'm new to the Hobby but wanted to share the progress of the tank so far. Let me know what you think!

How is that anemone doing? Usually it's best to wait at least 6 months before adding an anemone so that you can be sure the tank is stable. it looks happy in there though

It's doing alright. It moved around a lot and found a nice spot where its happy. I've had him for a month with no problems but then out of no where tonight I had my first issue with him. Maybe you can help. Did a water test and my nitrates were higher then usual (20ppm) compared to (5ppm). He shriveled up tonight before the lights went off and had a brown long stringy thing coming off of him. Is there anything I should be concerned about? What should I do? doing a water change tomorrow. Also other things you should know salinity is 1.024 Ammonia raised with Nitrate (50ppm). Ph is 8.0 and nitrites is 0. Changed my lighting yesterday, had stock lighting it was doing great on but wanted to upgrade to Led so got a Kessil a360we and have it at lower power right now. Could my ammonia, niratres and new lighting be contributing to him shriveling up and puking brown stuff??

it's looking a little rough. Also that powerhead looks like it's pretty close to it, i'd consider moving the powerhead so the nem doesn't get chopped up.

I'm not super knowledgeable about anemones but i would ask over in the clownfish and anemone forum. It's possible the anemone is infected with bacteria and you may need to treat it with ciprofloxacin if it continues to get worse

If you have ammonia present, your tank is not cycled, or your bioload is to great for the bacteria to process. If you have any ammonia present your probably slowly killing it. You need to take everything living out of the tank and make sure you can process 2ppm ammonia in 24 hours(dosed with Dr. Tims, or plain janitorial ammonia). I don't see a huge bioload in the tank, but 14G is pretty small and 1clown would be plenty.

Thanks everyone for the help. New update, check water again and must've had an issue last night because ammonia is way down in the tank now? Guess I made a mistake last night. I'm assuming the anemone is just acclimating to the new lighting so maybe it was stressed do to that? It's looking way better then ever now and definitely looks like it's loving the new light. Also moved power head further away from the anemone so it doesn't get chopped up.

Off to a good start. From your description the brown stinging stuff its its from its mouth its pooping. Just keep a good eye on parameters and the nem. Like others said it might have been a little early just keep close attention.
