Lucas in Alaska 180 Triton Method build

I am finally moving forward with this tank. I have had it in the garage for a year and finally moved it into the house.

Tank is a 180 Marineland reef ready tank with 2 Corner-flo's. I will be using the Triton Method on this tank and will be set up as such. The sump is a 75 that I got off Craigslist. The tank is centered on a wall between the living room and kitchen. It will be viewable from all 4 sides. The stand is the same hight as the half wall 48".

I'll start with the sump. Everything drains into the Refugium. The size of the fuge is 18x24 baffle is 18" high, 33 gallons. Next is the skimmer section 11x18, 14" baffle and the return area is 12x18x14h, 13 gallons. As near as I can tell the drain down for the 180 is 7.5 gallons.

I will initially be using a Reef Octopus Diablo 160 raised up. Then if I need a larger skimmer I will upgrade to a 30" MVX skimmer. I would really like to go skimmerless in the future.

I'm still trying to figure out the drain. There is a 1" bulkhead and I'm thinking of having it drain into a 1.5' flexible PVC pipe and then have it run to the fuge area. I don't know if using flexible PVC or hard 45 and 90's and straights would be the quietest. Any comments?

The return is a Eheim 1262. I will be using 1.5" PVC for the return piping and run a manifold section off the return to provide for reactors. If the Eheim isn't enough I will upgrade to Ecotech Vectra.

Other info about the tank; 3-Radion's and 2-MP40's.

I have always been the type of person who has Analysis Paralysis. I have been reading so long I just need to start this build. I have learned a lot from drummereef's build among others.

The stand is still in early stages built off of RocketEngineer plans. I had to remove the center post to get the 75 in the stand and it will be replaced. I have plywood for under the sump that will be added shortly. I also have plywood for the back and sides the make everything more ridged and then lag bolt to the half wall. I'm worried about earthquakes here in Alaska. The tank is on the second floor and centered on the load bearing wall.

This will hopefully be a quick build in the next few weeks. I have had 170 lbs of Pukani rock cycling in the garage for quite some time and it's ready for the tank.

On the photo's I'm going to post I have cardboard in the sump for a mock up of the baffles. Any advise or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Lucas, I lived in Fairbanks and Wasilla for a total of 5 years, moved to Sarasota Florida last year. Alaska is beautiful but I couldn't take the long winters anymore. My wife worked at Highland Mtn Correctional facility.

Hi Lucas, I was born in Anchorage and haven't been back since I was a year and a half old. I'm now 55 and my bucket list is to go to AK and see the beautiful state but also catch some of those barn door Halibut

Thanks for the link Teecz, I have only watched the first video and it seems like it's going to get so very involved to me. Many people that have been in reef keeping for many years, myself included, have always used the tried and true WC's with certain % and the same intervals plus any dosing of what extra is needed between the WC's to maintain a close to that of seawater.

Please tell me in your own words why this is easy to maintain and what is the cost of the testing with the special lab equipment and where it can be tested.
