Koralia Powerheads Longevity
I've been out of the hobby for a few years, and I' piecing together my new setup. My last tank was a 220g mixed reef, and I really loved my original series Koralias. I had four K4's. I rarely needed to clean them, and they lasted for years. The worst thing that ever happened was OCCASIONALLY I had to tap the prop to get it started again, or they acted funny after a power outage, but were easily fixed and back up and running.
Is this still the case with new Koralias? And are they still kinda big compared to other powerheads? I always thought they were a great value. I'm leery of the new Jebao's because of longevity complaints and at least one meltdown that could have burned someone's house down. :/ I'd love to get all Tunze's, but not sure I want to dump that much into multiple powerheads at the moment. I still need to buy lighting and a sump..

Look at Bulk Reef Supply for Tunzes. They are having a great Black Friday sale right now and the Tunze 6045, for example compares to the Koralia 1150 (replacement for the K4 which was 1200 GPH), is $54.95 while the best price I could find on the Koralia 1150 was about $43 so they are not that far apart.

I get the large ones 8's I think for a 215. 1 usually does enough aimed diagonally across the tank.
Mine last about 6-7 years. [Koralia] |
