vertex omega 180i question

I have a vertex omega 180i on my redsea reefer 350, which is 92 gallons total volume, the water level in the skimmer will only rise halfway up the skimmer body, won't even rise to the base of the skimmer neck,I just finished cycling so I only have one fish,a small green chromis, it's producing good bubbles to the point of looking like beer foam, but the level won't rise even if I close the water level pipe to 0 or open it to 50 percent I've also closed the volute and opened it still no rise in the interior skimmer level, do you think this is because my bioload is light

Do you have the skimmer sitting in 8" of water in your sump?

I built a stand out of eggcrate, and have it setting in 7.5 inches of water, I read somewhere it works best in 7.5 inches

Try choking off the airline tubing a bit with a zip tie. That worked for me on my vertex 130

I tried choking of the air but it still didn't rise,on this pic I have the riser tube close to 0 which should make it rise to the point of overflow also have the air volute completely closed

Try opening the Volute all the way keeping the tube closed

Also, how deep would it be without the eggcrate?

I opened the volute all the way and the riser is closed all the way and it rose a little bit still not to the neck of the skimmer and without the eggcrate stand it would be in 10 inches of water

Can you try it without the eggcrate. I'm thinking that it might not be in deep enuf water. These skimmers are very very very finnick but work like champs once they are dialed in

That actually worked, removed the eggcrate and it started to overflow like crazy, I opened the riser tube and adjusted the air volute and now it's where it should be, thanks primetime33

Sweet!!! Glad it's workin for ya. Let it overflow ( remove collection cup) a few days to let it break in again. Then u can dial it in. You may need to add a lil bit of eggcrate again.

Funny mine is running in about 7.5 inches and works fairly well. Took a little bit to dial it in though. I think your bio load has something to do with it as well.
