when corals are on sale...

I was wondering if anybody buys corals when they are on special sale. Do those corals fare as good as, let's say "new arrivals" or regularly priced ones? I am always kind of wary if corals are on sale to buy them online.

Ive had good /Bad experiences with corals whether they are on sale or not..I have literally bought corals right out of shipping bags from a Store locally that gets weekly orders shipped in and they do good and bad..Full price or sale price...luck of the draw...either way..
If you buy on line ,,hopefully you can see a picture to gauge health ..
Try to buy from reputable sellers on line that have a good history and now how to ship in colder weather if need be.....

Imo depends on vender. For example liveaquaria. Watch the videos on their multi million dollar coral facility. When they get the wysiwyg in the price is high. If it doesn't sell they lower it to make room for next shipment. In this scenario I simply hope no one buys what I want before it goes on sale. If it's a must have, well you get the idea. So in conclusion most of the time in this hobby you have a sale to make room or because they want to sell before it dies. It's on you to choose wisely.

agree, I was specifically thinking of DD in LA, the picture shown could have been when the coral was just happy and dandy...

Let me be clear here. This hobby is expensive, unforgiving, joyful, and capable of bringing a stern man or woman to tears. Live aquaria has done the community a favor. Backing their product with a guarantee is beyond amazing. Can I buy from eBay cheaper. Yes. But price and piece of mind have a balance.

Oh and take the time and check out their videos of their system. A coral in their system is not the same as Petco. Offense meant to Petco unless they have drastically changed in store setups.

We bought two Acro a bit ago from DD's sale page. Both are doing awesome in our system. Could we have gotten them and it not gone well, yeah. Bought a sun polyp coral from another online vendor and it was not one sale. Received a piece that looked like someone had their three year old at work that day teaching them the ropes of fragging and bagging/shipping.

I will say that both pieces from DD looked exactly like the pictures that they provided. I could see there being a point where the piece would change but from what I have read DD seems to have actual standards compared to some other vendor choices. Keep in mind they generally add some in every category every day so they obviously get to a point where the piece needs moved out. I don't know that I would read into the sale THAT much, maybe a little, but not like the discount produce rack at the grocery store.
